Going through some of the paperwork when a School Trip is planned can be something else... A (School) Trip
Our son’s school is preparing for a trip, an educational environmental trip. Of course part of all the preparations is a lot of paperwork to fill out. After all his siblings having pretty much finished school we are aware of all the rules that have to be read and signed, so with a deep sigh we sat down and went through sheet after sheet of rules and regulations.
One very important rule was to go through the ‘Behavior Rules’ together with our son, to ensure he would not act as a wild animal during the short trip (one overnight and they’ll leave the place early in the morning). Good behavior should be a regular thing; we thought and just grinned at the part.
Then we came to the list of what to bring and what NOT to bring. (Remember, we are talking about kids in the sixth grade!) They are actually not allowed to bring any GUNS! Or Crossbows!! Now, if a school points out that on this trip firearms and archeries is not allowed, it does make us wonder and ponder if they have indeed occasions where the carrying of weapons could be permitted.
I do not feel comfortable thinking that next year they might go on a trip and we actually have to invest in some sort of weapon or another, so our son can enjoy his trip to the fullest…
Further down knives were mentioned. Now here we can see some point of reminding people that their kids should not bring knives, boys always like to have their little pocket knives and some parents might think it useful to supply a knife for peeling an apple or such.
Then the security was mentioned! They actually listed all the staff cars of the police station, the sheriff and the hours when they will patrol the grounds, etc. Right after that came the mentioning of the emergency procedures for severe weather warning, followed by the procedures for a NUCLEAR EMERGENCY!!! This is where we put the paperwork down and seriously started wondering…
