Why DO I write...sometimes I know.
I've written for a lifetime, literally--well, accepting, thankfully, that my time isn't quite gone. First published on a school bulletin board at 6, and though I've gone through deep slumps, words pull me back.
When I was six, I mostly wanted my despicable father to believe I was worth something. Praise came from many others, and over time, I quit writing because he wrote and wanted to earn a living as as published writer.
That part of the dream hasn't come through--yet--but I write anyway.
As you may know, my e-book La Llorona (The Wailing Woman) is now out at all the distributors.
A couple of days, my local news station interviewed me with the book, linking it to the historic, and some say haunted, heart of Laredo, Texas.
To be sure, La Llorona (pronounced 'yo-ro-na') comes partly from the Mexican legend about a murderous mom, partly from current events (think Casey Anthony, for example), and in the case of the included poems--because I've always written.
But though I've never become famous or rich writing, when three of my grandchildren called, the youngest stumbling over the word 'congratulations,' just giddy with excitement because they "saw me in the tv", I glowed. They reminded me that having others involved in your dream, or your vision, is a reward in itself. They made me get back to writing today, something I haven't done nearly enough lately.
Pursue your dreams--and let those who love you cheer you on.
