What did they do with all that the warrior spirit? The last blog described the setup of the camp. It was in the most peaceful, beautiful part of Shropshire and about 20 people attended. Ladies diverted their feminine wiles into weaponry and the gents cooked, cleaned and learned about herbalism and moon phases.
I was on hand to teach about warrior goddesses for the ladies and gentle gods for the men. Originally I was to be a "solo act", but Graham, another specialist on Northern traditions was at a loose end and we gave a joint lecture that went down very well with the men. When we came to the ladies, Graham, got into a discussion on women on the frontline. He explained his reasons for being against this and, with each uttering, got the ladies more and more indignant. Rather than interrupting and getting on with the intended subject, I let the discussion run on so that the "fight" energy built up nicely by the end of the session, which was to be followed by a lesson in fighting with staffs. Apparently they fought very well.
Yes I know it was naughty, but they were there to find their inner warrior and those ladies certainly found it!
All in all the Warrior Within Camp was a great little success, especially considering it was Tye's first attempt at organising such an event and everyone went away stronger, wiser and with a whole set of new friends.
Another consequence was an invite to teach at another camp - Oxford Dance Camp, which is taking place as I type. I'm due there on Friday for the last weekend and will teach two workshops. Should be fun!
