Rainy Day in Middle Tennessee 7/11/2007 4:55:58 AM
Well, it's a rainy day in middle Tennessee, but we have needed this type of rain for almost a month. The plants have been crying for moisture and most peoples lawns have turned brown.
Karen Carpenter had a song, "Rainy Days and Mondays" and the famous line from it was, "rainy days and Monday's always get me down." It's a beautiful song and sung by a woman with so much talent, she made angels cry. What a pity she's gone.
As, a gentle rain falls I was struck by that song and thought how sad that rainy days and Monday's get some people down. Monday's should be a great day. It's the beginning of a new week that can be filled with wonder, excitement and the promise of beautiful things in our lives. A chance to start with a clean slate, so to speak, and begin our weeks with renewed fervor.
As for rainy days, aren't they just the same? It is God's creation being cleaned of all of the impurities of the world. The pollen is washed from the trees and plants. The ground gets a drink of liquid sunshine. The flowers open up their blossoms a little more to accept the blessings from above.
I hope if it's raining where you are today, that you will not think of it as a blah day, but as a day of cleansing and renewal. A day that, even though the kids cant go out and play, you have the blessings of having them inside with you to nurture and teach of the wonders and beauty of the world. A world that as of right now for them is an innocent and wondrous place.
Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young said it best. "Teach your children well." I hope all of you have a blessed day.
