Recharging Batteries 7/19/2007 8:05:21 AM
There have been some wonderful inventions dealing with batteries and their performance. We have gone from just plain AA batteries that last a couple of months, in some things and days in others, to rechargeable batteries that allow us to use them over and over again. There are lithium batteries that will last an extremely long time making it better for the medical field, the military and hundred of other applications.
Wouldn't it be nice, as we got older to replace our running down batteries with new one? What a great thing that would be for all of us? You feel your body getting a little worn down, so you walk into the kitchen, open the battery drawer - you all have one of those drawers - and pull out fresh new batteries. Or better yet, we walk over to the wall and plug a charger into our wrists for a few hours. "Ah, that's better, I feel so much better now." Well, maybe some day.
In the meantime, we have to make time to recharge. I know easier said than done. We have jobs, kids, spouses, church obligations, social responsibilities and so forth and so on. We are pulled from the time we get up until the time we lay down at night. So many obligations, too little time.
How do you recharge your batteries? Everyone has their own way. It maybe that you just enjoy sitting and watching the sun set in the evening, or viewing your favorite movie or TV show, or it could be that you just take a power nap during the day. The ways to recharge are as varied as each individual that lives on this wonderful planet.
Ok, W.C., "what's the point of this blog?" I just wanted you to know how I recharge my batteries and maybe it will help you in some small way. I usually find a quiet place, whether it's driving to work, with the radio off (this is critical) or sitting down at night with Heidi, my German Shepherd and just relaxing. But I pray. Yes, I pray, not for anything specific, just whatever is on my mind that I want to talk to God about.
I might just want to tell Him about my day (not that he didn’t see it all happen along with me) or maybe I want to tell Him about someone at work who is going through a tough time in their life or a hundred other things that happened that day.
The hardest thing I have to deal with is reminding myself that it's not always just about me. There are others out there who are dealing with a lot more difficult things in their life than I am. It reminds me of the poem, "I used to complain about how much my feet hurt, until I met a man with no legs."
How do I recharge my batteries? I try to do something for someone else. The little adrenalin rush that I get knowing that I have helped someone is just the spark that I need to recharge my battery. It may not be your thing, but I really believe if you try it, just one time, you'll understand what I'm talking about.
I hope all of you have a great and blessed weekend.
