A Prayer for our Troops
9/6/2007 2:24:29 AM

My uniform is old and doesn't fit anymore,
But my boots still shine through the dust from the floor,
I am not there with you this time my brothers,
But my heart goes out to you like no other.

I know where you've been and I know what you've seen,
The men you call brothers that stand on your team,
Comrades who help you when your will has gone,
Pulling you onward from dusk until dawn.

Everytime I pass those Colors traveling down some street,
On a house or a building or on a soldier I meet,
I stand a little taller with my head held high,
And raise a salute as they walk by.

Dear Lord you know what is in men's hearts,
And we can never be whole without the parts,
Bless our brothers who withstand the fray,
And the terrible price their families pay.

And if my brother falls on some foreign land,
Cradle his soul in the palm of your hand,
Take him home where there are no more tears,
Keep him safe and wash away all fears.

For You know the sacrifices that must be made,
And the terrible price the sometimes is paid.
But I plead that their burden my one day be eased,
And their familes and friends will soon be pleased.

To see them come home to bask in the glow,
Leaving behind the hurt and the woe.
And that we may always with one great voice,
Be grateful that they made the ultimate choice.

For You know more than we can ever see,
The price that must be paid for us to be free,
For You one did what many men have done,
Give up a Son so that the war may be won.

Cause You know a soldier prays for wars to cease,
So that all men may learn to leave in peace.
For they do not want to put their lives on the line,
But they will do it to protect yours and mine.

As the sun fades away and night draws near,
I bow my head with my eyes full of tears,
Thanking them for all that they have done,
And thanking You for the gift of Your Son.
