If I Get Nothing Else Accomplished Today... 5/6/2007 10:06:48 AM
It will be contributing to my blog. I have a few chores I have to do today...but this is the one I want to do.
It was interesting watching the talk shows this morning, listening to Newt Gingrich spew forth words that may or may not be true...he's not even sure, but he sounds convincing in his beliefs.
If Newt waits until October to decide whether he has a chance to run for the Presidency, let alone get elected, may be a case of waiting too long. As Speaker of the House, his "Contract With America" fell flat on it's face, I don't see how a new contract would be any better.
I find it interesting that politicians, no matter what their party persuasion have a unique view of pointing words of criticism from a distance...and if they do get a chance to run the show, their positions have a way of changing, once they are in the Oval office.
I for one have never desired the office of President, not understand why anyone else would either. Except for the power; that is the only reason.
George Tenet was on Meet the Press this morning and I lost track of the numbers of times George said "I made a mistake" It's a good thing he wasn't running for political office because with the abundance of apologies he would win a sympathetic vote in a heartbeat.
I am concerned about the early campaigning that is taking place. The prime reason is that by the time November 2008 arrives we will be so tired of the election process, we'll vote for anyone, just to get them off television.
Others have voiced this same issue; moving primary elections up to January and February 08 will ruin the primary process and certainly dillute the value of the political conventions. The nominations really won't matter, if the candidate that spends the most money on campaigning is more popular than the one selected by the conventions.
In other words; game over.
We are at risk of ruining our election process and should voice this concern to our elected officials.
There is one good thing that may come from all this nonsense and that is we could in effect do away with the electoral college; an outdated and unneeded part of the election process.
