I am a self avowed pacifist, there I said it, and it's true. But what I'm about to say is going to sound hypocritical to my pacifist belief...so bear with me.
While I maintain my pacifistic belief, I am also realistic enough that my convictions alone will not keep wars from taking place, and as long as human beings cover the face of Earth...there will be war. That thought alone saddens me.
It is my contention, despite all the hype that the President and his staff of cronies douse the American people with their polluted thoughts, that we did not engage in going to war with Iraq to win!
With all the weapons our government has at its disposal, why didn't we go to Iraq and totally level every inch. This of course would create havoc and destruction that is beyond all human comprehension, but the war would have been won. Sadly, America has not wanted to win a war since WW II, we did it then because we had to.
We went to Iraq for the oil, plain and simple. Disposing of Sadam Hussein was more gravy on the biscuits, that did not mean it was victory. The only way the conflict in Iraq will end, will not begin until we bring our brave soldiers home.
Mama said you can't be sort of pregnant; either you are or you aren't. I think our President should pay heed to that thought. Either you go to war to win...or don't go, period.
Barry Goldwater said the same thing when he campaigned for President of the United States, saying, we have no business being in Viet Nam, but since we're sticking our noses into someone elses affairs, here's what we should do. Holding up a map of North and South Viet Nam he pointed to where our bombers should go, drop the bombs, level the land and bring our troops home. That of course did not happen, and historians are already saying that Iraq is another Viet Nam.
War brings out the very worst of humankind and I know what we are doing in Iraq isn't solving their internal problems, we have no business trying to resolve issues that are thousands of years old.
A friend of mine years ago said while we were talking about Viet Nam..."War, you can't live with it, and can't live without it." For years, wars were fought for economic purposes. If that is so, what purpose is served by sending our soldiers to more killing fields?
