Lunch at Riley's 1/19/2008 2:11:15 PM
This blog is for my friend Dennis Leischner that said to me he really enjoyed my blogs about Riley's Restaurant. dlj It has been a long time since I've written about eating at Riley's Restaurant, located in Seaside, Oregon.
It's raining like crazy, the wind is really whipping things around and according to the thermostat inside my car, it registers 39 degrees outside temperature. So, why the hell am I even going out on a day like this? Good question.
The thing is I've been up since O dark 30 working on next weeks creative writing class and catching up on emails that I missed the last two days, due to a musclide, which cut a fiber optic line and disconnected phone and computer service, so to trreat myself for working so hard on catching up, I took me [Sic] out to lunch.
It was fairly quiet and even easier to find my favorite seat. I have discovered that having the right booth in Riley's is important. The booth has to have great light distribution. It also has to be comfortable to rest my fat butt and finally it has to be reasonably close to the front door. This particular booth fits all three criteria.
The one thing I cannot control is the other customers and today was no exception.
I was in an interesting part of the book I'm reading when from out of nowhere a womans voice fills the dining room, a shrill toxic voice. This womam was trying to laugh and talk at the same time. A feat that should be left to the hands of professionals. Then she belched.
The idea that this woman may have a few screws loose was dimished when her companion joined the chorus of belches and laughter. Then one of the women, I'm not sure which one said "I just had surgery last week, two places on my arm and they gave me a catheter. Want to see it?
This pointless jabber went on for about another five minutes then they decided to hit the road. By the time the one womann got to the part about showing her catheter, I couldn't eat another bite.
So, Dennis, you think you have strange critters in West Virginia...you ain't seen nothing until you've come to Oregon.
