I hope you have your nursing home picked out. The story from California about the 80-something-year-old guy killing 9 people with his car has sparked local elderly services to put out bulletins urging people to assess their own driving abilities and voluntarily quit driving if they can't do it safely. Of course this has generated screams of "But I'll be giving up my independence!" from the elderly who already know they shouldn't be driving, but have 'nobody' to drive them back and forth on errands.
I'd be willing to bet that, at least for some of them, the reason they have 'nobody' to chauffer them around is that their kids can't be bothered with them after taking years of abuse. Would you want to cart around a cantankerous woman (or man) who terrorized you as a child? I sure wouldn't! The elderly who lose their licenses feel that puts them one step closer to the dreaded nursing home-- and they're right! So maybe they should have thought of that before they hauled off and whacked the kid who was going to have to be taking care of them when they got older... what goes around usually comes around.
