"The Mist": Best Horror Movie Ever? Probably.

I've waited almost twenty years to see it, but I finally watched the film version of Stephen King's "The Mist" today.
And it was...wow. Just wow.
I'm a horror fan, but I'm a hard to please horror fan. I pick unmercilessly at plot points that don't make sense or bad acting or horrible directing. Most horror movies I merely like. There are a few that I dearly love with the passion of a thousand nuns (like the Romero zombie movies).
This is a movie that I love. Adore. Cherish. Hell, I'd marry it if I could.
It was that good. Jaw-droppingly good. With an ending that has bothered me all frigging day. Sure, interdimensional flesh-eating creatures are good fodder for horror, but Frank Darabont added some stuff to Stephen King's story that really hits the horror sweet spot. Stephen King should really kiss his ass, because he makes his work so much better...and I'm saying that as a huge fan of King's early work.
I had my Thanksgiving moment while watching "The Mist" today--there I was, sitting in a theater, watching tentacles drag a teenager to his death, looking at a four day weekend filled with turkey and dressing and a family that I love more than anything else in this life (even zombie movies), and I was so damn grateful and thankful for everything that I almost teared up. But I didn't, because then I would have missed some of the movie.
Go see this movie. If you love horror movies, if you love monster movies, if you just love GOOD movies...go see "The Mist."
