Remembering Doctor Gunn 3/6/2006 11:00:45 PM
If there was ever a time to rally the Pro Choice troops, this is it! Mention abortion and your likely to stir a pot that has been boiling for years and makes politicians cringe. In the early '90's, protests on both sides sprang up everywhere. Dr. Gunn was shot and killed in Pensacola, Florida. Legal abortion providers everywhere were literally "under the gun".
The confrontational images from the Melbourne Clinic were on the 6 o'clock news every night. Not 30 miles from my home in Cape Canaveral, Florida, religious zealots were blocking the entrance and harassing patients. It made me MAD! They picketed Doctors and nurses private homes. They sent threatening letters. They used their children as pawns and put them in harms way.
Worst of all, they attracted a "lunatic fringe" that was bent on murder. I wrote a song in protest and a local radio station played it while they interviewed me. You can hear it and the interview on my website www.megamarine.com/surfside.htm. It's starting to happen all over again in South Dakota and Roe v. Wade will be under attack by the religious right thanks to the puppet President Bush and his cronies. The band Green Day got it right when they named their CD "American Idiot".
This administration needs to be voted out of office before anymore damage can be done and the world needs to be rid of the mindless arrogance of the current group of liars in Washington. Does anyone else remember the 60's or are we all too old to make a difference?
