Marketing 101 10/31/2007 2:58:17 AM
Yesterday's adventure in Marketing I decided to do a bit of research on marketing before attempting anything. I searched the internet for PR firms and they want anywheres from $3500 to $5000. That is not happening yet.
So I did some more surfing. Here are some of the ideas that I found.
The biggest and most popular idea was to have a website somewhere that people can visit and to have links on the website directing interested parties on where to buy your book.
Networking on different web groups.
Door hangers or book marks - one side with your book cover and the back with a blurb about the book and where to find it.
Send book mark and letter to places in your genre - i.e. if historical to historical societies - if boating to boat clubs.
Press release to local newspapers first then to major ones. The local papers much more apt to advertise at no charge with interview etc for local authors.
Free ads in different online venues - there are many places that will post an ad for no charge. You just got to search them out
Contact local library purchasing agents - there are alot of libraries that have a place on their website to suggest titles. Be shameless and post your own book.
Set up a book signing where proceeds of books go to local charity - is great publicity
There are about a hundred other ideas that I found. The biggest promotion you can do, is be a self promoter. A proactive author will sell more books than a let's wait and see author.
