A New Day 11/13/2007 11:38:41 AM
Since coming to Author's Den and speaking with other Author's, I have reevaluated my desire to write. What is the purpose of my writing? To entertain? To inform? To pay the bills? To fulfill my own need to put words down on a piece of paper?
What I have come up with is yes to all the above. I was offered a stringer job with a local paper. The only catch was I had to write on the events they wished for me to write on. When considering this, I took in account the steady work providing a steady income and weighed it against being able to only write about the things I feel strongly about. Be it my opinion is high or low.
In writing novels and short stories I get a chance through fiction to share my opinions, my lessons, and my journey though the eyes of my characters. That is my passion. However, I have recently discovered another passion. Writing about people. Finding out the stories behind the stories. Why do they do what they do? Why do they believe as they believe?
So I am excited about a new venture. I have been asked to do a series of profiles on local people in the community. People of my choosing. Finding interesting stories behind the stories.
Thus far I have found three individuals that I am recording their stories in small segments. One is a 73 year old race car driver who still races in the Vintage Car races around the region. Stay tuned to the article section of my Den to read stories about real people, doing extraordinary things.
