Slavery Then and Now Blog: Kathy Wants To Know!
History is fascinating, especially Afro American history! Consider an excerpt from The African-American Historical News Journal printed February 28, 1778 on page 2 in column 1.
“Does it follow that it is right to enslave a man because he is black? Will short curled hair, like wool, instead of Christian hair, as it is called…help the argument? Can any logical inference in favor of slavery, be drawn from a flat nose, a long or short face?”
The quote was from James Otis- a true son of Liberty (as he was called in that day) as he spoke in a speech calling for an end to British oppression, and for American liberty. He wanted people to know that all men whatever their color have NATURAL RIGHTS. I take from this article my own question for the day:
“Is there still such a thing as “Christian hair” which binds us to another kind of SLAVERY in today’s society?” The Slavery of too much tolerance towards resent world views which go directly against God’s clearly stated intentions about the Act of Marriage! How can we as Christians right its wrongs without throwing out the baby with the bath water or abandoning our long standing Christian principles?
