I am so pleased with myself for finishing my current novel that I went out early this morning and treated myself to some paints, oil boards and brushes. The local supermarket had some special offers starting today - quite reasonably priced. So I splashed out.
Now, I have no real talant for painting. I can sketch reasonably well. But what I love is slapping colour onto the whiteness of paper or board. Often it turns out a mess - because I have no real talent.
I'm not going to let that stop me. After all, few of todays entertainers, comics, celebrities, singers, bands etc have any talent. Yet they sell themselves, their records, albums. perfumes whatever.
Some people will buy anything if they are TOLD it is good.
No, I am not planning on selling my daubs. They are just for my own pleasure. I might even attempt a self-portrait -warts and all!
