I send my 'baby' out into the world to seek its fortune. Yesterday, I sent off the typescript of my current novel to my publishers, after revising and editing for the last few weeks.
I have done all I can in that respect. The time has come now for the book to be read with fresh eyes and I look to my editor to do this.
This will be my twelfth book, yet I am never complacent about the book being accepted. I am always on tenderhooks until she gets back to me with her appraisal.
I feel that the story is meaty and full of incident and that the characters are vigorous and come off the page brimming with life - but I would think that, wouldn't I. After all, I'm the author. But will my publishers like it enough to agree to publish? An author, no matter how experienced, can't be sure.
In this book I have tried experimenting with time in the structure - showing scenes from past times mixed in with scenes from the story's present time. Did I get it right? Will the reader be confused? Was this a step too far?
Well, within a week or two I will find out when my editor gets back to me with her comments.
