Beetles crushed, their fluids used for dye in our foods!
It's no joke! Some processed foods and frozen meals are coloured with the crushed fluids of the cochineal beetle shown below reports the 16:9 Global TV Show. Foods that say 'colour' without stating where it is derived from, Cochineal (Dactylopius coccus), or don't bother to mention colour at all, are probably guilty of using the disgusting stuff. Unfortunately, in Canada it is not necessary for food manufacturers to spell the source of the food colouring out.
Here are a few of the products using the beetle juice:
Some ice creams.
Some frozen Lasagna. (spelling)
Some Yogurts.
In fact beware of any red processed food, frozen or not, that has colour added unless the nature of the dye is spelled out!
In the meantime, people reading this can check it out on the net simply by typing 'Cochineal' in their search engines.
Remember, if one major company is doing this despicable thing the majority of them are! It's not against the law in Canada! So we must protect ourselves.
