Although laparoscopic groin hernia repairs raise a lot of questions and dilemmas about surgical competence and outcomes(I discussed some in a 2011 blog), other serious issues about hernia surgery have come to light as well. I'm in the process of putting together an ebook regarding the confusion and prejudices found in hernia books and websites, as well as the very troubling disagreements surgeons themselves are having about which groin hernia repair is best for you. A modern hernia textbook written for surgical experts has revealed a number of interesting and disturbing facts. Also, most websites, ebooks, and print books dedicated to groin hernia treatments parade confusing ideas about hernia surgery, including downright wrong stuff that can hurt you. Be aware of the following: - surgeons themselves are championing specific hernia repairs and are doing so by offering questionable explanations of the advantages of their favorite operation over other choices - surgeons are criticizing groin hernia repairs they don't like in ways that are close to deceit - Expert surgeons disagree on basic aspect of groin hernia repair such as the anatomy, what a hernia is, as well as how it might best be fixed - Surgeons who don't like mesh ('screen') repairs are vilifying some of the best surgical procedures in the world - Surgeons who will only use mesh operations for hernia repair emphasize the high recurrence rates of 'no mesh - sutures only' groin hernia repairs - despite two lenghtly chapters devoted to the most perplexing post-op problem following groin hernia surgery - severe, chronic life-altering groin pain - some world renown surgeons are suggesting its not a big deal SO FOLKS - if the experts can't agree on what is best for you, how can you trust what they say and where can you get unbiased and reliable information on groin hernia repairs? I'm working on an ebook that will be an objective, unbiased and inexpensive resource, a road map through the maize of books and websites, for your use if you or a loved one has a groin hernia.
