Retooling the "Fifty Things You Need to Know Before Having an Operation 9/10/2015 3:40:45 AM
I'm refining this manuscript with a very insightful agent. We're pruning it down to checklists and the 'top ten things' kinds of lists you need to know about for each specific aspect of your surgical care. I've reorganized the book to reflect what you need to know at specific times and in specific places ("Chairs and
Beds you'll lie in") before during and after your operation. These sub-topics are the ones I believe will occur to you at that moment in your surgery journey. So you can flip to that particular question and I'll have answers for you.
An example:
One of the real threats to any patient undergoing a big operation is leg clots which can break off and travel to the lungs. A scary number of folks die each year from DVT/PE (deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism). To discover how 'at risk' you are you would turn to the list of the "Nine Top Factors that increase your risk of developing a DVT/PE. Knowing these issues allows you prepare yourself to avoid them before, during and after your operation.
I believe we're just a few weeks from submitting the manuscript. I'm excited!
