Were you ready to promote and sell your book? 6/22/2007 4:23:10 AM
I had no idea that I would have to develop a marketing plan, be creative, spend time, have a positive attitude, and be persistent if I wanted to promote and sell my book.
Am I the only published author who was naive about how my role would change from author to salesperson, booking agent, publicist, promoter, presenter, and anything else in order to sell your book? The positive about my new discovery is that I'm understanding the publishing industry better as well as learning things about myself.
Since my books have been published I have become a salesperson. I can approach strangers, talk about my books and I'm not afraid or embarrassed to ask if they want to buy it. It has not been easy but if I don't do it no one else will.
I believe in my books and therefore I have to put myself out there if I want someone to buy it. When I received my author's copy of my first book, words cannot describe the emotions I displayed. Through tears I looked at my husband and said, "I hope someone will like my book." Lovingly, my husband said, "You better hope someone will buy it."
He was my agent of reality. Until my husband said those words it never occurred to me that I would have the responsibility of letting people know that I had written a book, explaining how they could buy it, and constantly creating a "buzz" about me and my books.
