I'm preparing to release a kindle version of Virus X
Virus X has been available in hardcover and paperback but never as a kindle. Having just released Darwin's Blind Spot on kindle, I'm now looking forward to releasing this very important step in my own learning curve, with the proposal that viruses are symbionts - a concept I then spent something close to 20 years investigating, defining and developing.
So where to begin?
We start with the text font - I have chosen Garamond because it looked good on Darwin's Blind Spot. I'll have a go with Garamond font size 12 for the main text. It's small enough for a book page (the fonts on pages tend to be smaller than you use when typing a script so I may have to go down to Garamond 11.
No pictures. If I want to use pictures from the original print books, I may have to put them up on my website, www.fprbooks.com.
Text width 12 cms. Page can be a centimetre or 2.5 all around. Hardly matters with a kindle where the side of the page is close to the edges of the screen.
32 lines of text per page, line spacing set at 1.5.
Chapter heads spelt out numbers (like FIVE) in font size 18, chapter titles, font size 26, no italics, no bold - looks a lot better that with Garamond.
Paragraph indent 0.8 cm.
Reference marks - keep to font size 12 - to make it easier to link from mark to the actual reference. Set out Contents list with exactly the same clarity, so will be able to enable direct links from contents to specific chapters.
