Thank you, America

Two months prior to publication, a very important book (to me) is already looking like a success.
The world is changing - I'm not speaking in terms of economics, or politics, or war, or culture - all of which are important and very likely also changing. I am speaking in terms of our understanding of what lies at the very heart of us - the human genome.
By now many of you will know that I have written a book about it, The Mysterious World of the Human Genome, which is kind of the culmination of work, including writing, that I have been involved in for something like 20 years. It has been a lengthy labour, but again and again my strongest support has been in America.
My book The Forgotten Plague was one of three non-fiction Books of the Year for the New York Times Book Review. This book and its successor, Virus X (in which I advanced the concept of viral symbiosis), was a lead review in The New York Times as well as The Washington Post. The successor to Virus X, Darwin's Blind Spot, in which I took the evolutionary theories further, comparing and contrasting Neo-Darwinism with evolution through symbiosis, was also a front page review in the Washington Post as well as the selected book of the year for distinguished economist Charlie Munger.
My new book, The Mysterious World of the Human Genome, which is still something like six weeks off publication in the US, is a starred review at Kirkus Reviews for December. Today I hear that Bookspan has chosen it as a main selection in their Library of Sciences March "016 brochure. It will also appear as a backlist title in the History Book Club and Military Book Club.
I have always loved America. As a young man, I eagerly read US fiction and non-fiction, being inspired by Steinbeck, Faulkner, Lewis Thomas and Stephen Jay Gould, as a few of actually many more.
It would appear that the love was reciprocated. For this I am humbled and eternally grateful.
