During my fast I prayed,
Prayed for your blessings,
Prayed for your people at day break, noon, and at sun set; alone, with family, and with friends
I sacrificed my appetite to see your power, to see your glory
I waited patiently to hear from you, to encounter you like never before
During my fast I cried
Wondering if God honors sacrifices offered by sinners
Because there was only one sacrifice without spot or blemish; one pure and holy sacrifice
During my fast
I still managed to fall short and doubted and felt hopeless
The war between my spirit and flesh still went on,
I wondered if he would still honor my sacrifice when I crumble when discouraged, and dance with sorrow when my answer is not yes and amen.
During my fast I wondered if what I believed God for was in vain
If the fast would end with all things the same
If only he would bless me relationally; spiritually, physically, intellectually, and professionally
Do I ask out of a selfish heart for these things?
During my fast I learned to wait, to listen, to apply knowledge and understand
I waited on you, prayed to you and I watched you move
During my fast I believed that all is working for my good
Even if it didn’t end in the way I thought it should
During my fast I sought out the land
Oh yes, I went to the land of promise
I walked down its halls, and I drank from its streams
The air was clear there and the sky was blue
It was colorful and bright and yes his presence was there
It felt so right, it felt so real
I was able to think, to focus, and to trust you to be with me before and after my fast
