I reached for you
Stretched my arms
Arched my back
I stood there
On the tip of my toes
Reaching
Stretching
For your hand
My calve muscles tightened
My abdominal muscles contracted
I began to grow weak and tired
Feeling over extended
The wind blew
The rain fell
My firm foundation turned to mud
I slipped
I fall down
Reaching for you
Stretching my arms
On my knees
Wet, cold, and exhausted
I reached for you
And you turned around
And walked away from me

There's one sad truth in life I've found
While journeying east and west -
The only folks we really wound
Are those we love the best.
We flatter those we scarcely know,
We please the fleeting guest,
And deal full many a thoughtless blow
To those who love us best.
