I Wonder

I wonder who you might have been,
If you’d have had the chance.
If your life had somehow started,
By some different circumstance.

Would you have made a difference?
To this world in which we live.
I wonder what you could have offered.
I wonder what you had to give.

Might you have been a poet?
That could spin words into gold.
I wonder what you might have said.
I wonder what has gone untold.

Might you have been the one,
To rid us of our modern plagues?
The one to find the cure for cancer.
The one to rid the world of aids.

Might you have had the wisdom,
That could bring this world to peace.
A world with hatred far behind us.
A world where war, would finally cease.

How good it could have been,
If the world had known your worth.
Had you had the chance to live,
And had not been denied your birth.

Perhaps things would be different,
If we could all see in advance.
The many things you may have done,
If you had only had the chance.

Your poem can be looked at in different ways and I think may provoke fundamentally diferent emotions. Whatever, you write in a very caring and sympathetic way. Also, this is well rhymed as always.

Yes, not to mention all the people killed in wars who were supposed to be born, have we killed the person who could free us from this bondage, that we are stuck to this earth and can't get off of it?

The world of 'what if' can destroy if anyone dwells there too long. Beautiful but sad write. Too many never even get a chance to ask 'what if' . . . and the world suffers for our folly of playing God.

Jack, a what if poem is prevelant in all our lives. It is sad because it is full of regreat. Very few climb to the zenith. Make the lasting contribution that they think they could have made. This is a poem about failure and not success. And rising to the zenith in life is not always good.
Some rise to the zenith with very bad results. Like Hitler, and the dictators.
Hitler, rose and conquered almost all the world. His natural position was a paper hanger. Bill

Touching. Reminds me of a friend of mine who just lost a child. I hear her asking these questions every day. If you don't mind, I will send your link to her to read. This is beautiful and thoughtful.

Sometimes I wonder too, but in my case I don't think it would make much difference. perhaps I wouldn't want it to be much different. I have so many blessings to count now and life is good to me.
