Twin Sisters

We both stood there proudly, my sister and me.
Reaching up to the heavens, for the whole world to see,
Everyone seemed to think this is how we would stay,
But then came that fateful September day.

We were standing there boldly and full of our pride,
Then I felt a sharp burning pain in my side.
There was an explosion, a large hole in my skin,
I then heard the cries of the people within.

I looked around to where my sister stood,
I could tell by her face that it was not good.
As I looked in her eyes and she looked into mine,
I saw her heart being ripped out from behind.

She tried hard to stay standing, she was hurt worse than me,
Is this really happening, how can this be?
I began to grow weaker as the moments went by,
It's hard to stand straight, but I know I must try.

We have to stay standing, of this there's no doubt,
We must give our people more time to get out.
Then came that horrible rumbling sound,
and I watched my dear sister fall to the ground.

She was just there beside me and now she is gone,
But I can't give up now, I have to hold on.
With all I had left I tried hard to stand there,
But this terrible burden I could no longer bear.

Just then my knees buckled and I started down,
Along with my people I fell to the ground.
The dust and the ashes, it all upward flew,
To darken what once, was a sky of pure blue.

I can't understand what could be in a mind,
That could make someone capable of this sort of crime.
There is no way to measure the horrible cost,
Of the lives on that day, so senselessly lost.

To all those who perished on September 11 2001

And may we never forget. I had friends in the Pentagon on that fateful day. Thankfully, all are still fine, but we knew others not so fortunate.
Very respectfully written, Jack.

A touching tribute to a drastic and horrid event. A day that will live in all our minds and hearts forever. I like you and all others too, just cannot imagine the evil in the minds of those that caused this. Another great write Jack...~SH~

What an amazing write Jack. I missed this when you posted it originally. This is written from an extremely inventive perspective and captures the horror of the
point in time when the world as we know it changed forever.

Sends cold shivers down my spine. watching those planes fly into the towers and then the towers collapsing is something I will never forget. Referring to the towers as twin sisters makes it even more heart-rending. Jackie <> <
