Transcendental Sonnet #1261:
First White Blossom On My Barren Tree
The apricot tree I planted
As that boy back in '68
And stood like this man desolate
These long nights and brief dreary days
Today becomes a wish granted
As it bears fluttering finches
Butterfly birds which never soar
The bringers of spring by inches
Unseen and unnoticed before
Since dearer day and younger year
Flit past fly fast busy always
Hard at work building new life here
Now as I watch them my heart smiles to see
The first white blossom on my barren tree
