She doesn't know me any more,
Time's changed familiarity,
And, suddenly, senility
advancing, knocking at her door.
Once bright, her eyes of blue are dim,
The light within is now a glow
Like sunset walking 'cross the snow
With emptiness filled to the brim.
My role has changed; she guided me
In all those yesterdays gone by.
Now, I lead her and ask God why
He took away her memory.
In all the world there's none so dear
Yet in my heart stirs darkest fear.

Yes. It would seem that the "maker of the universe" played a cruel joke on us in the end. Well written because the words ring so true for so many.
