on the contrary

by Elisabeth Barstowe — Read all 441 poems by Elisabeth Barstowe

I wrote this about 3 years ago, it's been posted here before but I took it off to save space. Now I think it deserves another chance.

On the contrary
I beg to differ
Whatever you say
I see it in a different light
It may be so…
That situations can be similar
Yet not of the same..
Because feelings and perceptions
Are never ..
Two of a kind..

It’s a simplicity
In it’s complexity
That two can be so close
Yet so far away…
my other half
Now separate
And nothing can heal
Those battle wounds…

If you think you got it right
I beg to differ
I never said your pain
Wasn’t valid..
I never said I was right
But I’m dying here
I’m dying trying to make you happy…
And what I found out is…
It can never be.

it is true Elisabeth, "parting is such sweet sorrow" -- continual conflict and an existence that confronts one with abasing comments and other psychological/physical abuse is not an environment love can long coexist in -- peace and love to you my friend -- JM
