Beyond the stables and into the field
She ran for her life, no way would she yield.
A shadowy figure that cast no line
Whipped between the trees of cedar and pine.

The snow covered ground gave her trail away.
Her swiftness, she prayed, would keep him at bay.
Her hand held no weapon, her heart, no fear.
Her azure eyes had no time for a tear.

The frigid air cut deep into her skin
As she sensed the darkened form crack a grin.
The harder she ran, the greater the taste.
Not a drop of her blood would go to waste.

Scurrying across a half-frozen creek,
She wondered when her body would go weak.
She pulled herself onto the snowy bank,
Not waiting to see if it swam or sank.

Running through a thicket, she heard him land
Just inches from her, he swept for her hand.
She wanted to scream but pushed on instead.
Thoughts of her demise squealed inside her head.

It wouldn’t be long and he knew that well.
His hundred plus years had proved time would tell.
Down to a pant, she gave all that she had.
He yanked her into him; eyes raving mad.

The heat of her neck and her ragged breath
Would give him a memory of her death.
A nibble of her skin and a bite through vein
He let her scream out because of the pain.

Only a moment and he drew in his due,
A human variety of the brew.
So warm, so filling, so full of her life…
His murderous act cut him like a knife.

Letting her drop down onto the cold snow,
He watched her lifeless stare turn into a glow.
Reaching for his hand, she smiled without soul.
An endless future without a bell’s toll.
