Whirlwind at Rest

Chaos chained in ebony cloud,
soundless screams in
kaleidoscopic color.
Faces, faces, whirling faces
steal somnolence night
after night.

Sweaty awakening in
darkened tangle of sheets,
heart hammering,
hammering,
slowing, slowing.
Headache rising.

A man of action in
a time of peace,
a whirlwind on a mountain. 
Mountains cannot be moved
as men can.

Let the whirlwind be stilled.
Feel the peaceful granite,
immoveable shoulder:
structure against the chaos.
