Summer Heat

Summer heat hangs,
thick and heavy,
running in rivulets, soaking
into my hair, my shirt,
my socks.

I can hardly wait to get home,
shed some clothing,
and settle into cool,
refreshing ice water, and
let the fan breathe
shade across my skin.

Chicadas wail while nature
hunkers down to await sundown, and
cool evening breezes.  But today
the breezes are just as hot. Tonight
will be sleepless and humid, and
morning will come all too soon.

I'm a summer person, and no matter how hot it gets, I'll take it over the winter any day! Excellent imagery in this, Dallas.

A crystal clear account of summer heat. One hundred days of it with a rum chaser and the stanzas would began to slur together in a bluesy sort of way.

It's amazing our our environment dictates our dreams. When we are immersed in frigid weather we dream of summer. When we are enduring sweltering heat, we long for snowy days, or at least for Autumn breezes. I started dreaming of autumn's chill just reading this poem, Dallas. I could feel the heat "hang think and heavy." Good job.

I promise, Dallas, I didn't send you the heat, even though the high pressure that's been in control retrograded west ... it's coming back, don't worry. Praying for cool weather for you, just stay safe, 'hear? WOW. Y'all ain't used to that! (Neither am I, all I can say is, THANK GOD FOR A/C!!) Perfectly penned, now I need to go shower off and cool down, myself!

((((HUGS)))) and love, Karla.

I've heard you all are having quite the heat-wave up there in WA. Hope you have AC. Sounds miserable. Sleepless in Seattle gone wild!!
