From whence comes those cries?
A prophet,
awash in a sea of zealots:
waves of legality
cascade over his voice,
his struggles unnoticed
among self-righteous spray.
"Man overboard!"
Feet pound the heaving deck,
as anxious hands
grasp the life-preserver.
Hesitating at the rail,
his would-be rescuers
stop to render judgment.
Will they realize
it's not his life in danger
of suffocating among the brine,
but theirs?
His cries are of warning,
not of fear!
BRILLIANT!!!! So well done, Dallas: great parable here, written with not a word wasted and yet this little power-packed poem is image-rich and fully developped in plot and presentation. I'm in total admiration for how well you've exectuted this. It's explosive! And right on the money! :)) xx
And he will swim off to destiny. Wise words, well crafted.

No, they're usually too busy being smug and petty unforunately. It takes a special soul to step out of group-think and speak one's mind, especially if unpopular, which it almost always is. So hard to hear amongst echo-chambers, noise-machines and think-tank talking points. Amazing and impressive you were writing this in '99. Prophet indeed my friend!!
