The fruit is not sweet
it's ripped from the tree
pre maturely
robbed of sun's bliss
its climactic kiss
dwindling grower families
silenced by power industry
oh whoa unto me
whoa unto thee
the fruit is not sweet
the fruit is not sweet
Produce grown in soil
whose nutrients are foiled
chemically enslaved
sprayed and dye bathed
genetically designed
to increase profit line
corporate monopolies
thrive on health atrocities
prescriptions for millions
sick naive citizens
oh help us dear Father
we've polluted our water
toxins are killing us
toxins are killing us
lost are farm communities
ways of life and properties
who will be next?
what will be next?
more corporate concoctions?
lost freedoms and options?
beware dear friend
it may never end
oh whoa unto me
whoa unto thee
the fruit is not sweet
the fruit is not sweet
the fruit is not sweet

a powerfully poignant poem that covers the landscape of our lost ideals, in respect to quality, purity, the common good of our crops and the people who grow them ...
A very sad and poignant poem. Tragically as you pointed out…
lost are farm communities
ways of life and properties
who will be next?
what will be next?
WE are losing so much of what made the country strong and self-reliant by trading off tradition for corporate gain. Hopefully we can pray that some time in the future we will all return t our grass roots and to healthier traditional values…
Thank you for sharing this picture portrait poem…

If we can get the states to see reality then we have nowt to fear.
But if they remain commerce slaves - the fruit is very bitter-
uhm yeah I agree. Wow!...there is nothing I can add, because everyone here has said it all. Thanx for sharing, Gwen.

Indeedy! By the time it gets to the plate, there's snaff all of the nutrients left.
Methybromide being one of the biggest culprits, ah..We all need a patch of our own dirt to grow our own food, such a pity we cant.
Excellent write.

A timely, potentially life saving write. I remember the garden we had when I was young (MANY years ago LOL), how we'd weed, shoo away the bugs, when ripe, pick a veggie right off the vine, rinse it off and go eating delicious, wonderful food. Nothing tastes like that anymore...nothing like home grown, NATURAL goodness. Well done, my friend.

A timely and vital warning to us all about being cautious and careful about what we consume and drink...
Our body is our holy temple, and we must look after it with great committment and precision...

Brava! This is an alert that all should heed. Especially now it is worse than ever. Almost all of our illness can be attributed to the food and water we digest! This is a fantastic rant/poem Gwen and I thank you for sharing it! I shop at a place called Trader Joes where most of the food is organic.
A very powerful and a very sad message, Gwen. I for one mourn the loss of all the great old Mom and Pop enterprises, including the magnificent old family farms.
