These are the lyrics to a song I wrote in 1998 as I left a difficult relationship. . .

The Way That I Am
by The Poetess (SRP)

Other pretty faces is all that you see.
I'm right here beside you! What about me?
I'm tired of you looking at her and her and her,
Tired of being seen as an unattractive blur.
I'm tired of hearing that I'm not enough,
Tired of hurting and all this stuff.
Tired of being measured and compared.
It's goning beyond what can be repaired.
I need you to love me. Please understand -
Need you to love me the way I am.
The things you say, they are so mean.
I can't be a picture in your magazine.
Can't be an actress on your TV.
This is the way I'll always be.
I'm not a photograph. I am real.
I need you to care about the way I feel.
I'm not an hourglass. My breasts are small.
I will never be your Barbie Doll.
I need you to love me. Please understand.
I need you to love me the way I am.

I am too verbal is what you say,
And you don't like
me to be this way.
You say I'm analytical, too sensitive and deep,
And I get too close when we sleep.
I am so intuitive it threatens you
But I can't help it. What can I do?
I've had enough! Why not leave?
Go find someone you can deceive.
I need you to love me. Please understand.
I need you to love me the way I am.

But you are still finding me all wrong.
You've put me down far too long.
I don't want to keep throwing stones.
I think I'd rather be completely alone.

Sad lyrics that I'm sure many can relate to. You obviously made the right choice and being alone has its advantages, at least for awhile. Patrick

You're real and beautiful and you are a fine writer.
He was a fool.

I hope you didn't re-print for a new reason! This is a well written heart felt poem.

It was definitely his loss. I've seen your picture but more importantly I've glimpsed your soul in your poetry. A powerful voice in the poem.

You are beautiful, just the way you are. Growing only adds to the glow of the silky skin in which you live. Be Always Well, Carin' Spirit.
