After winning the first two championship races in 2008, Big Brown was odds-on favorite to become the first Triple Crown winner in 30 years.  Instead, he finished last.  After the race, Big Brown was evaluated by doctors and found to have no serious injuries.

How I love the feel of freedom

Running in the wind.

Of course,

I’m a horse

So I don’t think in words like “freedom” and “love”.

But I’m translating it for you humans.

We call it equomorphism.

Or at least, we would.

If we bothered to call anything at all.

But we don’t bother.

We just run and feel the wind.

We feel the joy of our limbs.

And we don’t bother to call it joy.

We don’t harness life with words.

We don’t pave the grass

Then nail horseshoes to our feet for protection.

But you people love the harness, the halters, the blinders.

And you take my power, my will, my freedom, my maleness.

You take it and you call it champion.

And you get turned on by it.

You make money by it.

You get fame by it.

And you instill into me your will.

You drive me to your success

Until you’ve pushed me beyond my own nature.

I can feel it.

I can feel that your will has left me behind.

If I try to catch up, I will lose my footing.

I’ll fall.

And then before too long,

I’ll be cat food.

So I throw off your will.

And I slip into my own rhythm.

And you people, you’re all so disappointed.

So you put me out to pasture

Where I get all the fresh grass and fillies I ever desired.

And that’s how I won the Triple Crown.
