When our children were born
we loved them to bits
and when they slept
it was so peaceful
exhausted we said to each other
dont wake the children as we slid under the bed cover.
But irony is
it works one way
the children always woke us
the same time
every night
every single day.
Then as the years
flew past so fast
the children grew up
we knew it would not last,
of they go with their friends
and we old codgers
off to bed by ten.
But then at twelve
I would hear the door
hear them say
dont wake my parents,
funny how things change.
So just to redress the balance
I'd walk down in my old pyjamas
it was worth the look
on their faces
as to their friends
I would wave
'Morning lads is this the dont wake the parents brigade'
In Spirit,
