SELF-DIALOGUE

Dialogue with yourself is the most
important communication-encounter you
will ever experience. It is the ultimate
path to self-discovery and happiness.

Speak to yourself. How can you listen to yourself
unless you talk to yourself? Unless you talk to
yourself the voices you hear will be those of other
people. Your voice, too, is important for you.
The truth is, you know more about yourself -
your thoughts and feelings -  than anyone else. But
self-dialogue is needed in order that the knowledge
you possess about yourself can be expanded.

Self-dialogue is much like the dialogue you have
with another person. It consists of talking and
listening, give and take. It is a search for better
understanding of yourself and self-discovry that
will enable you to have more living in life and more
life in living. It is an on-going dialogue.

When you have dialogue with yourself you will
encounter the child within you and you will realize
that he is the most important character you will
encounter. In your early years your child was all
of you. He still remains much of you in your adult
years, even  though you may have tried to abandon
him. The Apostle Paul said,
When I was a child, I talked like a child,
I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child.
When I became a man, I put childish ways
  behind me. (1Cor l3:11)
Significantly, he never said, he "put away the child."

There will be times when your child is up to mischief,
pouts and throw a tantrum. At such times stay and
discuss with your child the obvious and not so
obvious. There will be times when you realize that
the child within you is right and you are wrong.
There will be times when you will  know to say "no."
You have the opportunity to be a nurturing parent
for your child and at the same time be your own
best friend.

When you are alone speak aloud to yourself and
listen with your one heart and two ears. During
this process you can gain clarity and be reassured.
Do not be hard on yourself. Being  hard on
yourself, like hard work, is not desirable or
necessary. Be self-forgiving. The only mistake
is one from which you learn nothing. You are
not perfect, so do not demand perfection for
yourself. You were created to be happy and
have joy. Both are to be pursued and
simultaneously experienced in the now.
