Lost In A Cardboard Box

Only yesterday
years of thoughts and memories
kept secretly locked away
vanished.
Good to no one
but myself
should I choose to recall
a pertinent moment or two.

Life lost in a cardboard box...
Duct-taped,
sealed,
stamped
and
delivered;
Destined to be touched by those
who could never understand
the ways of my world.

Paul, I love this poem because it reminds me of another story. Before Dr. Norman Vincent Peale (the father of positive thinking) died in (I think 1995) I read everything he wrote. One of the things he said we should do every night is, "write down the problems we had that day, ball up the paper and throw it in the trash." A very thought provoking poem.

I know this feeling all too well! I have had treasured memories boxed up for years now, they call out to me to open but I can't squeeze myself between all the new crap in order to get to them!
It seems that, just knowing they are safe, and that one day I will get someone to bring them down, then, I will enjoy those boxed memories again...yeah...when I get old! HA!
Love and Peace~

Sounds like the last time I sent a manuscript off to a publisher. I wonder -- do we write to be understood, or do we write to simply express ourselves? Which ever way that goes, you expressed this one with stark clarity, and I do understand. Nice work!

I think my Aunty is having trouble with her precious moments that she had tucked away too, after she found her files all raided!!

A masterful way of saying, "My life is changed as of this day!"
Your words, however, make, "Boxed in," an expression of freedom.
These are rare and restful words.
