One Last Walk With Dad

Let me walk along with you
before we say goodbye.
There's just so much that goes unsaid
in life until we die.

I'm grateful for the chance to talk
and to tell you how I feel.
You've always said, "Life is hard,"
but that was not our deal.

You promised always to be near.
That's how it's meant to be.
Knowing you are moving on
is especially hard for me.

Where are all our yesterdays ?
How quickly they have passed.
With no tomorrows on this list,
I pray today will last.

I know that I may ask too much
the ending's drawing near.
 Lasting words before you leave
and I'll make them quite clear.

Happy Father's Day,
I Love You

I wrote a poem with a similar theme for a friend when her son was shot. I like to think it helped her. I know there's things she would have said to him - for that reason, and many more, this piece grabs me by the heart. Too many people don't say what they should say when their loved one is still alive. Well crafted & a tender moment. Not sure if we're allowed suggestions but I was wondering if "quite" in the last line would sound more effective as 'perfectly'. Has a better ring, but I understand this is your masterpiece & it IS a masterpiece. Hugs.

Fever apart, your loving sentiments resonate loud and clear within my heart and mind, Paul. The ageing process is a shock and something which we wish to deny in our most beloved parents, I think. The pain and the "stay of hand" are both palpable here. May your love for each other increase with every passing moment so that you will both be forever fully assured that your closeness could never be bettered or ruptured. I wrote in similar terms in my poem, A Terrible Hardness. Bless you, and the fact that this was your Father's Day gift and tribute makes this even more special. With love, Kate xx

Such a beautiful write my friend, a warm and sincere tribute from the heart! Time passes all too quickly...seems as if days of youth passed slowly, then as we grew older the days began to speed by...much like in the bible when James compared life to vapor on water...a touching write indeed, I'm a bit late on the review, but still touched my heart! Enjoyed!
Blessings,
Joyce B.

Paul,
This is such a tender tribute, just remembering one thing, life and death are part of the natural cycle. His soul and energy remain always with you...

Paul,

A loving tribute to your father, penned with the growing realization of precious memories and ever so precious days remaining. Many of the sweetest days with my father were spent on borrowed time.

Would they could walk with us again ... so hold close your this time together.

I enjoyed reading ever so much...

How beautiful and moving Paul. A wonderful tribute to your beloved father. Life is too short and we never seem to say the things we want to say but I hope you said all that you needed to. God bless, love to you, Theresa.

I read this with fresh eyes, Paul. My father just passed away in May and, although I knew it was coming, I struggle with his death for many reasons. I think I will struggle with this for a long time to come. Even so, I could FEEL your words and transfer them to emotions I have held for my father. Oh, crap... I'm rambling.

It's very good to read you again, my friend.
Great rhythm!

Hugs to you,
Tami

Paul, this is such a beautifully written tribute to your Dad, the words say so much about your relationship with your Dad. Time is fleeting and yes, we must let our loved one's know how we feel because none of us know when the last hour for either person will come calling. I truly loved the rhyme and rhythm of this poem.

This is one poem we all must relate with...eventually
Losing my mom was very difficult and now, with my father approaching 83, it makes me think...

"...You promised always to be near.
That's how it's meant to be.
Knowing you are moving on
is especially hard for me."

It's, "The time of our life", in another voice...
Excellent write! God Bless our dads!
Love and Peace~

So much said in this verse, my friend. It speaks VOLUMES! I wished so much I could have had one last walk with my Dad. One last chance to say goodbye. This is a powerful and heartfelt write, Paul. A keeper!
