Can You Hear Me Now ?

I'm a servant to my time.

Don't want composite red.

Echoing tracks become redundant.

Straining vocals, abusive...

 

Murder isn't an option and

violence is never rewarded.

Cooperation can be satisfying

when the garden's tendered.

 

I'll not repeal this plea,

nor justify my opinions,

for the sake of righteousness.

I owe and wish to own no one.

 

A honed blade can only

penetrate to the hilt.

Once it has served its purpose,

no further harm can be done.

 

The junkman peddles his wares

under artificial light.

Once the lamp goes out

a candle can be lit.

 

Sharks bait their hooks

with the pimps leftovers,

until the lawman fills his pockets

with laundry stubs.

 

Lawyers bargain and wash

their hands in the judge's chambers.

They pat each other on the shoulder

over coffee, but we pay the check.

I agree with LM about the last stanza, but I'm drawn to the fourth.

Once it has served its purpose,/no further harm can be done.

That phrase is absolutely chilling in its finality.
