Smudged

by Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen — Read all 1,670 poems by Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen

I trace the word
in the grease
spewed upon my oven controls.

Smudge.

As am I.
A smudge.

Am I?

I'd sure like to know what you were cooking that spewed that much grease. Maybe you're a smudge. Maybe you're not. Just be thankful you're not a skidmark in the underwear of life.

A great start Erin. What was the word? Who were you cooking for? And why? And what?
I can see this as the beginning of a wonderful series.

Erin, as you trace it the smudge will change and never be the same again. Maybe if the heart desires it strong enough ... it will become crystal clear like water. Bill Murray
