Idiotic Human! … Fumed the Pencil

"Idiotic Human! ... " Fumed the Pencil

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Idiotic human …” fumed the metal, mechanical pencil.
“That darn poet’s gone off … and, now I’m falling! …
from the computer desk! … again! … yikes, that hurts! …”
“Oh, no, see! … look, my lead broke! … that
won’t make her happy … ha … well, that’s what she gets …
for being so careless … of me … her favorite … ”
“Hey, hey, cat! … leave me alone! … stop it, you … you …
you big hairy … animal! … ouch! … watch out …
your claws! … you’re pushing me! … you brute … oh, no, stop! … ”
“Ick! … not back here! … darn it, you retarded cat … yuck! …
It’s dusty, with scads of scrappy paper … all oogey and dirty! …
it makes me wheeze … and it’s dark! … and creepy …”
“Aahhh! … there’s a spider! … I don’t like this … help! …
wait … someone scatted the cat … it’s her! … my poet! …
she’s searching for me … back here! … I’m here! …”
“There, she’s got me … backing out … ouch! … she hit her head! …
but she’s smiling … brushing off the dust … safe, clenched
in my poet’s hand … I beam back! … as she starts to write …”
WONDERFUL!!!!!!! My new favorite from you. Thank God for pencils, and the idiots who use them. Engaging! Magical! Well done!
Now you're talking! The life of a pencil? That's you're magic, sweetie pie, to take me where it never occurred to me I wished to go... I fell from the desk, I rolled on the floor.. I cried to be found.. I sighed to be clutched and once again working with your words. I love this one! katy xox.
I could feel that pencil's terror, Erin. Wow. Glad to see he survived!
Pencils have lousy attitudes, ya know? Were you doing a bit of 420 when you wrote this or have you graduated up to some good old fashioned shrooms...? Thank you for my morning smile, back to bed for a couple of hours before work...Peace thru WHATEVER it takes, ED & Rufuz
Great story/poem, Erin. It hits home. You've no idea how many pencils I misplace. I love your sense of humor -- first read of the morning, too. Good way to start my day. Thank you.
