A Wise Man Advised Me

by Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen — Read all 1,670 poems by Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen

Monday, July 5, 2004

A wise man advised me,
in tones I would not hear, here,
in my mind, but already known
in my soul. He kept me afloat.

A wise man apprised me
in words that confused me, deep
did I go to find courage of need
in my heart. Through darkest fears.

A wise man described me
in terms I couldn’t place, my face,
it seemed, had a keenness I hadn’t seen
in my eyes, in blinded sight.

A wise man proscribed me
an ending of self-hate, love doved
by a wisdom I felt grow slow
in my spirit; now, my ego can glow.

A wise man advised me
in dreams I now can hear, here,
in my skies, to cherish my being, seeing,
in my soul, that love makes love whole.

Yep... this is what it's all about, Erin, me lovely. In the search for self, we may have many 'tour guides' but discovery is made when we listen and learn. I love the homophones, nonchalantly piercing those second lines. This "man" is right, you know, and now you know what I've always known. I love when you get positive! This is one of my favorites. (smile) katy xox.

Erin, love the structure of this. That double rhyme in the second line of each verse smoothes the flow of your poem. Well done.

Nicely penned verse. Engaging imagery and tone. Oh elusive Wisdom, hold me close! Loved this one, Poet!
