Corridor of Mirrors

She was in a dream,
floating on combined waves of sensations,
and she heard a voice asking,
“What do you see?”
She closed her eyes
and looked into her mind.
She saw
a large frame, with a mirror
inside of it, deep inside.
She looked inside the mirror,
and saw more mirrors,
linked, like a corridor,
afloat in a star-spangled black.
She went inside the first mirror,
into space, and flew along
the corridored frames.
It felt peaceful. Serene.
The path curved and arced,
and she could see the end
coming closer. The corridor stopped
at another large frame, plugged
into the emptiness of space.
But, she couldn’t get in, she didn’t
know how. She floated
at the end of the mirror corridor,
touched it, searched for a door
that wasn’t there.
She felt bereft, and clung to the frame,
begging for the answer
to enter the end of the corridor.
There was no reply.
She was pulled backward,
towards her own framed mirror,
her peace shattered. And she wept,
there, floating in front
of the path of mirrors.
