Bonsai Bastards

by Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen — Read all 1,670 poems by Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen

Tuesday, August 10, 2004

Tortured tree, I bleed with your aborted
Need to grow, to proliferate. Why must
Mankind, even with gentle wile, show red
Arrogance? Humanity’s red – flows rust.

Torture me; me, who bleeds hopes of rust. Where
Can we find peace, in a world gone mad? Bent
To fit society’s greed. Who now cares
Whether others are sated? Freedom meant

An aspect of sharing, of helping those
Who can’t cope with suppression of being.
How did politics kill compassion? Foes
We can name can be controlled. But, dying

Has become commonplace, innate instincts,
Now, seem hardly worth the bother of ink.

The narrator dipped her pen in an inkwell filld with compassion. It comes through loud and clear. I love the poignancy in the ending couplet.

A world gone mad with numbers. In my novel, Anasazi Harvest, I call it CHP -- Compound Human Propagation. Compounding is really getting a head of steam now, and I'm sure we ain't seen nothin' yet. Ah, but I suppose this is my pessimistic side, Erin. See what the bother of ink has brought out in me? LOL
Best regards,
Leland
