The Weight of Breasts

by Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen — Read all 1,670 poems by Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen

Saturday, August 28, 2004

There is a fascination
the human race has
with breasts. I
have breasts. Nothing special
about them, really, in fact,
they can be cumbersome,
at times, in body and mind.

Time compresses mind,
mind divines time,
and aches to its rhyme.

Breasts. They are functional,
they procreate humanity,
in their forms, and
so much more…

Zygotes. Dividing essences
into sexes. Doesn’t that seem
strange? Is it a purely physical
thing? Divisions?

Because, there is not such
otherwhere, in Beyond.

Life suckles breasts. Who can
decry that fact? Anyone?
To my shame, I did not
suckle my children, my girls.
Why? For just that fact.

Beyond was more important…

You gasp. I flagellate myself
every day, for that,
and other things. Abuses
of self satisfaction, of losing
my dreams young, of killing myself,
on September 11, 2001. Murder
of one pales besides murder
of a world. Yet, there are
breasts involved in the speciousness
of all deaths…

And, now, rebirth.
Birth. Blood. Birth.

The weight of breasts
brings weight of guilt.

" UDDERLY DELICIOUS!"

Not unlike the lactose flow of life into the mouths of Babes, this poem calls to mind a similar flow of words, but Alas! I am unsure as to whether the source was from a Play of Shakespeare, or from the Bible itself? " Are these not the Paps that gave thee suck? "

"Thou art WOMAN!" Bearing - Birthing - Suckling - without THEE, there IS NO MANKIND !!!

Mankind -> MAMMALS -> MAMMARY GLANDS -> MARVELOUS STUFF !!!

Erin - a most powerful and beautiful write! Thank you for reminding us "pea-brained" MACHO Martians from WHENCE we really came!

Tom.

Erin, I am sure it is with tremendous pride and the awesome responsibility that goes with being a woman who has the fortitude to recognize they are the only species who can repopulate this planet and feed their off springs should they choose to do so that may sometime bring unwarranted guilt.

...........in the Beyond . . . Division does not exist ........neither the pain, or sorry, ....or degrees of happiness . . .so what is our true purpose "Birth. Blood. Birth" ??

...... very powerful poem Erin........I have missed reading your work. . . . will try not to let that happen again......

its strange how some men try visualzing what it's like to have breasts and some women consider them a burden ...

your poem is powerful ... metaphorically it balloons ...

But the absence of breasts means no more wet t-shirt contests.

A-cups I got,
A woman I am not,
I still look rather pregnant as well,
Perhaps that is why men do whistle,
In my bathing suit I do look hot...! :)

I will now, irreverently, cast a shadow on your cerebral renderings and simply say that if my boobs were chopped off, I would weigh tons less, nearly disappear, I would! Sigh... I have my grandmother's ba-zooms, but she was 5'5... I am a mere 5'0. Dolly Parton with a messier waistline... the boys don't lust after me, they gawk! Then they check the size of their hands and walk away, a renewed appriciation for their size 32B waiting back home. I wouldn't change a thing! (grin) katy xox. p.s. forgive me for this most self-centered, all-about-me commentary, dearlin' Erin, but you got me started! hehe.
