Mountaintop Secrets

Hazy air sent out a dare, in mornings
slanted light. Mountain tall, she wanted all,
and smiled at cosmic clouds. Eyes beckoning,
earth-brown, naïve, she'd felt a subtle call.
She strove to reach, to dare to breach the creed
of sun’s bold heights. Cloud dropped down low, to show
how to unfold herself until she freed
her mountain soul, and learned which way to go;
to find the path, to make 'her' last beyond
her earthly home. Mountain small breathed it all,
and smiled with inner dreamings. Heart, well-songed,
sky-voiced, naïve, she heard a clearer call.
I watched to see cloud and mountaintop meet,
and smiled as I felt completed heartbeats.
