Arrears of Expectations

by Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen — Read all 1,670 poems by Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen

Sunday, October 30, 2005

It’s been brought to my attention,
Throughout my life,
That I am unproductive of my time.

I know this, but, I also know that.
Because, I’ve thought of it,
In my downtime.

The frictions of expectations,
Yours and mine, wear me down.
Like an old tire, I have little rubber left.

I worry, once my threads are bared,
No one will care if I lived.
I’m not a friend-harboring person.

I understand, with empathic precision,
The nature of divisions, I
Live them every day.

The absolutions of expectations,
Yours and mine, wear me down.
Like an old engine, I have little spark left.

It’s been my life-long intentions span
To better myself, in life,
But, I am still unproductive.

It seems I must write longer, here,
To cover my sins of thoughts,
And, to make arrears to expectations.

Dear Erin: I wrote this sitting as a patient in a hospital in Downtown Brooklyn New York-a hospitla which , much less had a PhD pass its' portals but hardly a person with a college degree(i was president of the ward with authority in meeting to comment (for example "we have a problem with Wallace" "Wallace is leaving tomorrow also " and my reply "there you go" "Wallace with his moslim headcap etc" "wont be here"(Marvin, please,!!! please!! I have to have an egg salad sandwitch, please!!!") at 2 dollars.
I wrote this poem which Melvinia typed for me

The time to come is always going
and I havent found my mind
the past is going the future is coming
and i haven't got the time

I rest my life upon my heart
to find the end of day
but when I try to make my start
the future flyies away

I was president of the ward my whole time there. And a person can ask the question "what was more important , my poem, or Melvinia, or Wallace or my daily battle with him to hold on to two dollars, as the time passed in my life.-or an unwards bound financial position or friends of better wealth or influence. Life is transient, memories, moods, good or bad, and a million of one thing that is always in front of your nose is better than few of soemthing else you see much better that you define yourself. It is true that everything is in the pursuit and your only possible enemy is your own self judgement imposed moods from your pursuits that distort your time and assets of living. "You dont always know until its' gone." "from teardown paradise and put up a parking lot"
Life is just a random walk anyways, like bacteria in a test tube some spend their life time trying to define. Its all in haveing taken that random walk, evolution had not gotten this far with out having doled out to each of us in advance our two dollars for egg salad sandwitches. So why cause your self what I call "space(room)" problems-i.e dwelling problems with all the possible meaning. The world is just volumes (as in cubic meters)-you cannot say the word nothing, but of beyond your life where you do not know, even "nothing", is in a world of (reproduceing)volumes, your two dollars and egg salad is always there or there ""isn't nothing"".

You write stuff, Erin, that for the most part, makes me think and that I appreciate as i have to look up words and such...if you were to leave us thru death or just a permanent sign off where would I learn new words from...? Ed

Some writes beautiful and meaningfully; many write wondrously; You,
Poet Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen, paint the motions of life and depict
the essence of the soul.

"Arrears of Expectations" glows as its energy flows throughout its
poemized and poetized lines of poetic grand.

Gratefully,

Hi Erin -

Very introspective and well written, but productivity is all relative.
As are expectations.

Having stated that, in my humble opinion you rock!
